Charles Northend
(1814-1895)
Charles Northend was the first superintendent of the public schools of New Britain. He served from 1873 to 1880.
In 1875 Charles Northend, with three others, initiated and founded the Hartford County Teachers' Association" to elevate "the condition of education in the county."
Mr. Northend published numerous schoolbooks, and a book entitled "Teacher and Parent " in 1855. He published 36 works works in his lifetime, including "The Life of Elihu Burritt."
